Edmonton has Home improvement permits available online now!
The city of Edmonton has launched its online service to get a jump on home renovations, you can now get your home improvement permits online at edmonton.ca/homeimprovement.

“Edmontonians told us that they are looking for a self-serve option that is simple to use, easy to understand and, most importantly, saves them the need to drive downtown, pay for parking and wait in line,” says Jason Doerksen, Customer Experience Manager. “This new online portal will provide a quick and convenient way to obtain home improvement permits.”
To help homeowners know what information is required to complete their application online, interactive guidance has been added to clearly explain if a permit is required and the documentation needed. If an applicant has all the required details, Doerksen says they should be able to get their home improvement permits applied for online in under 15 minutes.
Common home improvement projects that can be applied for online include:
- Home renovations and basements
- Decks
- Garages, sheds, and gazebos
- Hot tubs and swimming pools
- Home additions
- Secondary suites
- Renewable energy systems
The City receives over 8,000 home improvement projects each year and continues to improve the experience for homeowners and contractors.
